Every Monday-Thursday, The Evening Commute gives you “The Top 5 stories to break while your 9-5 was breaking you; set to 5 tunes that’ll help put you back together.”

Every Sunday, we compile the week that was in a series we call The Weak Ender.

In case you found yourself lost in the beautiful music of Nero’s fiddle, here’s the big(gest) news from the weekend:

Friday afternoon, President Trump signed an executive order indefinitely barring Syrian refugees from entering the United States, suspending all refugee admissions for 120 days, and blocking citizens of 7 Muslim-majority countries (Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen) from entering the United States for 90 days.

A few hours before that, President Trump’s “Statement by the President on International Holocaust Remembrance Day” broke with the bipartisan practice of past presidents by intentionally not mentioning the 6 million Jews that died.

On Saturday, President Trump signed an presidential memorandum demoting the Director of National Intelligence and the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff on the National Security council’s Principals Committee and giving his chief strategist Steve Bannon a seat at table of the top inter-agency group for discussing national security.

President Trump also signed an executive action calling for a “Plan to Defeat the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria” to be delivered by the Defense Department within the next 30 days.
