Every Tuesday-Friday, The Morning Commute gives you “A rousing digest of the day’s biggest news, set to a soundtrack worth waking up for.” Every Sunday, we compile the week that was in a series we call The Weak Ender.

Since last Friday’s edition of The Morning Commute:

  • More than 200,000 computers around the globe were infected over the weekend with a ransomware virus called “WannaCry.”
  • North Korea launched a new kind of ballistic rocket on Sunday, which might be capable of carrying a large nuclear warhead.
  • U.S. lawmakers requested President Trump release any taped conversations he had with fired FBI chief James Comey, in order to “clear the air” following the president’s tweet warning Comey against speaking to the media.
  • At the Global China Summit, Chinese President Xi Jinping urged world leaders to reject protectionism, positioning Beijing as a champion of globalization amidst growing nationalism in the western world (while also pledging to invest tens of billions of dollars in a “Belt and Road” plan, described as the “New Silk Road,” to strengthen China’s links with its trading partners).
